3D/Technical Artist at Pocket Sized Hands

Summary

I am a 3D Games Artist and graduate of Abertay University where I received an Honours degree for studying Computer Arts. Currently I work as an artist for the AR/MR/VR development company Pocket Sized Hands.

I left school at the age of 16 to pursue a career in the games industry, and initially started studying animation for films and games at Dundee and Angus College. The 3 years I spent at college helped me realise what aspect of game art I wanted to specialise in, resulting in an interest of modelling, texturing and design. I've carried these interests forward into university, by having my projects consist of modelling, texturing and designing numerous game props, environments and vehicles.

I joined Pocket Sized Hands in February 2017 while still at university. This was my first opportunity to work as part of a games team and create work professionally. During this period we have worked with a number of different clients on different projects, which has given me a variety of artistic projects to work on. I have also represented Pocket Sized Hands at the Tech Rally VR Edition event in Berlin, Germany, where I pitched our own game concept, Honeypot Espionage, to an audience and promoted our game to the public.

Specifically my role at Pocket Sized Hands has mainly consisted of creating the 3D environment assets that are needed for any current projects the team are working on. This involves asset modelling, texturing and also environment building within the game engine. However, as our contracted projects involve a variety of different art style requirements, I have also been needed to produce 2D art work such as small asset and environment sketches.

I have a real passion for learning and look to always progress and improve in all areas. This way I can develop my artistic skill set and continue expanding my portfolio.

  • Artist (Outsourced) at Tag Games
    Dundee, United Kingdom
    October 2018 - December 2018

While still employed at Pocket Sized Hands, I was given the opportunity to be temporarily contracted at Tag Games as an outsource artist to help work on one of their projects up until its deadline. However even though I was an outsource, I worked within the studio amongst the Tag Games team. My responsibility's were to create the in game environment sets needed for the project. I spent my two months modelling, texturing and lighting the in game sets for the other developers to use for cut scenes and game play environments. My time at Tag Games was extremely valuable to me as it allowed me to jump in and be part of a new team of developers which helped broaden my industry experience by adjusting to the way their studio was managed. I was able to get guidance from their team of lead artists who could critique my work and offer me brilliant advice. I learnt a large amount of useful information during my time there which will aid me a great deal for later in the future.
